Drac update and server reboot

We noticed yesterday that if you update server DRAC via OME and reboot server box stays selected then OME commands server to reboot during upgrade. From manual it says that RAC update does not need reboot. If you do not select reboot server box upgrade goes to staging phase and OME says that upgrade will be completed when DRAC is rebooted. Then you can reboot DRAC by using racadm -r drac -u root -p password racreset soft command. No server reboot is necessary.

Is this correct behavior?

Thanks for the post. What is the installed and available firmware version for iDRAC ? What is the server model ?

From iDRAC firmware 1.30.30 onwards (released in Dec 2012), the server does not require a reboot to update the iDRAC firmware. That means the installed iDRAC firmware should be 1.30.30 or higher. If the firmware version is older than that, then server will need to be rebooted even if you are updating to the latest iDRAC firmware.

Thanks. Good to know. We have several 720 and 820 servers.

This happened on R720 server with drac firmware 1.80 and 1.82 firmwares while updating to 1.95.
