Drop Silverlight and ActiveX controls
I was real excited about OME 1.1 but the dependence on Silverlight and ActiveX controls for things makes it a real pain. My admins are a mix of Linux and Mac laptops and everyone will need to RDP into a server just to access inventory should we choose to work with it more. It won't ever work on any mobile/tablet devices in it's current state.
It would have been nice that if instead of developing an Android app you fixed it so the main site worked in a cross platform environment, you'd then just be able to open it up in your mobile browser and not need an app.

I agree in that I would love to see Dell move into this decade in how applications are made.
You can't even select text in any of the device details in OME due to using Silverlight.
Please move aways from windows desktop centric development. The world just doesn't work that way now.

I can not get silverlight installed and therefore cant installed on server 2008 r2. I have tried all the SL clean up tools and hacks but each time it says cant create file or directory but nothing is in the log and temp subdir has all rights and Im in as an admin. Ant idea when SL requirement will go away?
Any way to force sl install?

Hi,
I will pass on the feedback related to moving away from silverlight and moving to futuristic web-technologies for OME to the right stakeholder here in Dell.
You can install Silverlight 5 without any issues on Windows Server 2008 R2 with IE browser or Mozilla browser.
Thanks,
Vijay
