Error Importing Catalog, cannot push updates to servers.

I have tried to import the catalog, but I get this error:

Import Dell Version Control Catalog for System Update from downloads.dell.com/.../catalog.cab failed.Exception message: This operation cannot be performed after the request has been submitted.

I just installed OpenManage Essentials, so I believe the catalog is up to date. I am following the instructions in this video:

to push out firmware/bios updates, but I do not see "Update Section" or "Create an Update Task".

Perhaps I'm missing something else?

Hi,

Thanks for your query. This exception message happens when OME is not able to communicate to downloads.dell.com URL.

Please check whether proxy settings are proper in OME.

With respect to OME 2.0.1, you should be able to see Manage->System update ->Non compliant Systems.

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks,

Arun

Thanks for the response. I was able to open the URL and download the catalog manually on the same system.

Does OME have it's own proxy settings that need to be set? If so, where would I do that?

Once the catalog is updated, should I expect I will have the same issues when trying to update servers? Where do the actual update files come from?

OME has proxy settings under preferences tab.

Once proxy is set, same will be used for both catalog & download of update packages as well.

By default OME will download update packages from Dell site (downloads.dell.com/ftp.dell.com).

But you have options to choose Dell Repository Manager (or) SUU DVD (or) Online catalog under System update -> Select a catalog source.

You can find more information in the following white paper.

Thanks,

Arun

I have read the whitepaper and followed the instructions as I understood them, but have encountered another error.

When trying to push OMSA to a system with v6.5 installed I get the error:

Results:  File deploy command failed to execute with error message: The deploy operation failed.  Unable to copy the file to the remote system.
Error message:(ID-2)The system cannot find the file specified.

I cloned the "Sample - OMSA Upgrade Windows" task.

I have:

Deployment Type: Server Administrator

C:\temp\OMSA\windows\SystemsManagementx64\SysMgmtx64.msi

as the installer path (local on the OME server).

No install arguments. 64-bit System is checked. Allow reboot is checked.

Task target has a single machine with OMSA 6.5 installed and is polling info. The firewalls have been set on this system. Schedule is now, and the credentials are correct.

Hi Mathew,

Since you are using a very old version of OMSA, can you please confirm couple of things:

  • The package you are using to update OMSA is a full package and not just an upgrade package. Since you have cloned the OMSA upgrade task, i wanted to be sure.
  • Can you try uninstalling OMSA 6.5 first from OME and then push the latest OMSA package? This is to rule out there is no problem because of the current state of OMSA on the target server.

The target server (Server B) is currently running OMSA 6.5.

What do you mean "uninstalling OMSA 6.5 first from OME"?

Do you mean that you want me to execute a remote command from within OME to the target server to uninstall OMSA? How would I do that?

I have one OME server that is a brand new VM with the latest version of OME. I downloaded the latest version of OMSA to push (8.1).

The target server is currently running OMSA 6.5.

Okay, uninstalling 6.5 was successful. Deploying 8.1 was successful.

Pushing updates to the system do not complete and do not reboot the system.

Thanks for the update.

Sometimes OMSA might be in a state and remote commands do not run properly. So uninstalling installing works.

When you tried system update, what error do you get in system update Execution details? It will be helpful if we can get a look at the details presented by OME on executing system update task.

This is resolved for now. The files downloaded by OME to push to the server were incomplete or corrupt. Deleting them resolved most of the issue.

The console STILL shows success status even if the push is unsuccessful. After ~10 hours on the phone with Dell to resolve these issues I still don't know why the logging does not work or if they intend to fix it.
