What I meant was that I had moved the slider and changed the ICMP timeout before posting. After those changes to the default configuration I'm still seeing the false positives.
The VM is configured single socket with four cores and with 8gigs of memory. We have a relatively small installation of about 25 devices including R720's, R710's and a few MD3620's. The errors I'm receiving are coming from the 720's and 710's only.
I followed best practices from the Installing Dell OpenManage Essentials pdf.
Since looking through the wiki I have changed the status polling speed slider all the way to the left. I've also configured my ICMP timeout to 1500 milisecond (up from 400) and set the retries to 5 (up from 1)
Can you confirm if the server/VM running OME has the recommended configuration as listed in the user guide? You can also try moving the Status polling speed slider all the way to the left. It is located under Manage->Discovery and Inventory->Status polling configuration.

if you ping the failing targets from the OME with a ping -t what is the average response time and how reliable is the ping test?

The ping test is reliable. Also I don't have this issue on 8.9.

Thanks for the updates. Do let us know if you see any difference after moving the slider.

I'm also having this problem. I'm getting false system down messages every day. It's making the monitoring tool worthless.
