Hi Cameron,

OME 1.1 reads the hostname of the devices from the DNS. Whatever name is registered for the device in the DNS server, OME is will read that name and show that in the device tree. So you can edit your DNS entry to show a proper name if you want.

If in any case there is no DNS, then OME will directly read the device's hostname from the device. (i.e. the device's instrumentation name)

You can get information about changing the hostname for a drac at en.community.dell.com/.../20086471.aspx

You can change the hostname of a windows server like this:

  • Right click on My computer and click on properties
  • Click on change settings
  • Click on Change
  • Provide the name that you want to give in the computer name text box.
  • Apply the settings

OME will then read the changed computer hostname

Thanks

Cameron,

If only RAC device is discovered, then RAC DNS name (as retrieved from MIB-II) is displayed in OME under "RAC" group. If both Server and RAC are discovered, then the devices are correlated and Server hostname will be displayed in the Device tree under both "RAC" and "Servers" group.

If you want the server hostname to be displayed, make sure to discover the server as well along with its RAC device.

Thanks,

Thanks Raj.

I do not have Open Manage installed on any servers and will not be installing it.

All my servers are 11G or 12G.

I thought that with OME 1.1 and specifically 12G servers that no agent was required. Are you saying that even with 12G servers I still need an agent to obtain the hostname that can be seen in DRAC7 in OME?

You do NOT need any OpenManage agents to be installed on 12G servers other than iDRAC 7. Discover a Windows server using WMI protocol and/or a Linux server using SSH protocol, OME can get the server hostname. Let me know how it goes...

Hi Raj,

Not getting any info back when using ssh connection.

Troubleshooting tool shows I am able to connect over port 22 (to the drac IP) with user password combination I have in the discovery range details so it's not a port issue.

Just to confirm here is my environment and what I am doing.

Running OME 1.1.0.6063 running on a WIndows Server 2008 VM.

All of our managed nodes are Linux Servers. Most are 11G and some are 12G. Some have enterprise drac cards and some do not.

For my testing of OME I am only discovering a small range that only has 18  R620 12G servers in it.

I have a private /24 allocated for just DRAC and all DRAC IPs are in this block.

For discovery range configuration I only have SSH configured and it is with the same info I am successfully able to connect to the DRAC cards with using the troubleshooting tool as well as direct SSH access to DRAC via CLI.

After submitting that range for Discovery and Inventory all the servers in that range show up as Unknown with connection status of Off.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks Raj,

Looks like i will need to find another way to get better device names as SSH at the server IP is not an option.

I thought OME would be able to just use the hostname that is listed in DRAC web interface when Discovering and Inventorying  the DRAC IP via ssh as when I ssh to that IP and run this command:

racadm getsysinfo -w -s

I am able to see the hostname.

Hi cameron,

Here is the recommended steps:

1) Discover and inventory all your iDRAC IPs using WSMAN protocol. Make sure to enable "Secure mode" options. Once the task is completed, you will see all the iDRACs under "All Devices -> RAC" device group (Manage -> Devices page). Each iDRAC entry will be displayed with its RAC hostname.

2) Now discover and inventory the Server IPs (not iDRAC IP) configured in the operating system and is associated with each iDRAC in step 1, using SSH protocol. Once the task is completed, you will see all the Servers and iDRACs appear under both "All Devices -> Servers" and "All Devices -> RAC" groups (Manage -> Devices page). Each device entry in both the groups will be displayed with its Server hostname.

If you see an entry in Servers group but not in RAC group, it means only Server (w/ NIC configured in the operating system) was discovered/inventoried without iDRAC and vice-versa.

Thanks,

Raj Shresta

WS-Man is requesting a certificate file when in secure mode. Is this a file that comes with OME as it's asking me to browse the local disk directory to find it?

Hi Cameron,

When you are doing WSMAN discovery, you can select Secure Mude,After that you can select Skip Common Name check and Trusted Site.In this case you will not be required to provide the certificate file.

For providing certificate file, you can provide the path of the root CA cerficate using which the iDRAC is signed.

Thanks
