Monitoring using OMSA AND iDRAC

Is it at all possible to monitor systems using BOTH OMSA and iDRAC?  If so, would i be right in assuming that each system would be represented by two entries under the Devices window?  I know this may seem like an odd request but the reasoning for this is in the event we have a network switch down, we can still monitor the devices for other components like disk etc.

Any thoughts on this one?  I'm using OME 1.1 by the way.

Hi,

Yes, you can monitor systems using both OMSA and iDRAC.

For OMSA, you can use SNMP or WMI i.e. server discovery and inventory.

For idrac6 and 7 discovery you can use WSMAN, IPMI, SNMP, in the order where WSMAN gives the most details.

After correlation, i.e. server and iDRAC discovery and inventory the device will be shown in the device tree under servers and RACs, both with the same name which is the DNS name of the server, if DNS is configured.

When there is a network switch down, the connection status for the server will shown as OFF. And the connection status of iDRAC in the RAC information table will be ON. If you have discovered and inventoried the iDRAC using WSMAN, you should be able to do most of the management using iDRAC only.

Thanks for the advice Pupul....

How is OME configured to use the iDRAC IP address/hostname?  I am currently adding specific server names to a discovery range so no IP address ranges are scanned for host identification.

Thanks

Yeah, so you'd just put in the IP address of your iDrac 6 or 7 and discover via WSMan.

There may be one or two useful whitepapers on www.delltechcenter.com/ome on setting up or environment or managing different types of devices.

Thx

Rob
