New install on remote SQL database is very slow

I tested OME using MySQL and had no problems with response time on the app, in fact it was almost instantaneous.  For our production version I uninstalled all of the OME components, as well as MySQL and reinstalled OME pointing to a SQL 2008R2 instance.

Since then, the web application takes about 5 minutes to load the data on any given page - even the Discovery ranges take a few minutes to load inside the Discovery and Inventory page.

The database server is on the same network as the DellOME server so network lag isn't an issue.  Is there anything we need to set to have it use a remote database that may be missing?
