For HyperV you should include both SNMP and WMI in your discovery wizard.
Also, let me know what version of OMSA the SNMP troubleshooting tool test is reporting. (You have to have OMSA on the HyperV host to get the health reported.)
On the hosting Hyper-V server its guest inventory “HyperVGuestNICInfo “ is populated via WMI .
To get the guest correlated with hyper-v hosting server, the MAC address of guest should exactly match with HyperVGuestNICInfo filled when Hyper-V hosting server discovered.
I've enabled SNMP and WMI discovery for the range that my Hyper-V hosts are in. Unfortunately, I'm still not seeing any VM information on them in OpenManage. They both show that virtualization is detected on the servers but they don't show any actual VM information.
When I run the Troubleshooting Tool on SNMP mode against one of the Hyper-V hosts it shows Server Administrator version 7.3.0.
So now also run the WMI test from the Troubleshooting tool. Be sure you see Server Administrator in the result set for that test as well. I'm trying to confirm you are getting both a good WMI and SNMP connection. The HyperVGuest.... thing is just if you were browsing the WMI namespace using another tool. Would not worry about that now.
Since you are not getting the HyperVGuestNICInfo anywhere, can you try one thing. Remove the discovered IP from OME and rediscover only using WMI protocol. Once the discovery and imventory is done, check if the device is present under Microsoft Virtualization group. If present, then look for the HyperVGuestNICInfo table again.
If not present, we will need to check what is the configuration which is blocking to get this table information.
Thanks for confirming. It just looks like there is some configuration which is preventing the HyperVGuestNICInfo from being populated. Can you log a support ticket at 800-945-3355 or
1- Discovery and Inventory of HyperV hosts and HA cluster are ok (OMSA installed on hosts and SNMP configured correctly)
2- VM discovery showing under Unknown category
3- Under "Microsoft Virtualization Servers", I can see my HyerV hosts but no Virtal Machines associated. When I go to the details of my HyperV host, I have two sections "Virtual Machine Guest Information" and "Virtual Machine Guest NIC Information" populated correctly. Only "IP Address" information is missing from the second section.
I'm using OME 1.3.0.1533, OMSA 7.4.0
I disabled firewall on both HyperV and VM. Also I enabled Network Discovery in VM.
My issue was because I did one discovery and inventory for both host and vm with both WMI and SNMP. So I split the discovery in 2 ranges, one for hyperv hosts with WMI and a second for vms with SNMP and it's fine. I have the VMs under the HyperV, but they are duplicated under each HyperV host!
Haithem - looks like you have a cluster setup? We have seen this issue before - but we don't know a root-cause.
One option is to delete your devices from the device tree and re-run the same discoveries using the same ranges/protocols. If possible, discover the hosts first, and when that completes, discover the VMs. That might remove the duplication.
Ideally you should see just one "Virtual machine" subgroup in each Host Group. The Virtual Machine group should list all VMs (6 in your case). The Virtual machine group will be duplicated in the two Host (HV1 and HV2) groups.
Yes, I enabled SNMP on all my VMs. When I run the "Dell Troubleshooting Tool" for a particular VM with SNMP protocol, I got "MIB-II (System Name)" with the VM name.
In the Inventory of the VM, I have the correct MAC address under "NIC Information", also I have the correct Host Devise Name under "Virtual Machine Guest Information", but in the left tree of All devices, all VMs are duplicated under all HyperV hosts!!

Also,
There is a whitepaper on www.delltechcenter.com/ome that may be useful.
Managing and Monitoring a Virtualization Environment Using OME
thx

Rob,
When I run the WMI test tool against one of the hosts, I get a successful result with the following fields:
MAC Addresses
Windows NameSpace
Dell Server Agent NameSpace
IPMI NameSpace
Virtualization
All of those fields, with the exception of the MAC fields, just show "Present".

Hello, I have the same issue i.e.

All servers are 2008 R2.
Thank you for your help

Hi there and thanks for the post.
Can you confirm you have discovered:
1. The HyperV host via WMI
2. The guest OS's via SNMP (you need to make sure SNMP is enabled on the VM)
But first....are you able to see the MAC address table in the inventory information of the Unknown device?
That would be a good place to start.
Thanks,
Rob

Thank you Rob for your quick feedback.

I m attaching a screenshot.
Any advise?

Hope you have enabled SNMP on each VM being managed? Not just the hosts - the VMs too need SNMP enabled.
One way to check that is to see if your VMs have MacAddresses in their inventory.

Yes I have a cluster of 6 nodes. I re-executed the inventory after deleting the old entries but same result.
What is strange is that not all nodes have the VMs duplicated. 2 nodes out of 6 are ok.
I will continue investigate but I can leave with that :)
Best,
Haithem
