How many devices are you looking to monitor using OME on this install?

Typically, it's best to have a dedicated VM or physical R2 box for OME.  It just makes life easier (for concerns that you raise in your post).  That said, folks certainly install OME with bunches of other stuff on the server as well.  Sometimes it causes issues, but often it's fine.

The limitation can often be SQL Express.  Microsoft severely limits the capabilities of this database (you can see the MS web page for details on  this), and it could well impact the performance of OME.
