OME - System Update - file deploy failed on localhost
Server 2008 32-bit. Firewall is switched off. UAC disabled. User is a domain admin. OME Discovery looks good and alert notifications are hitting my mailbox (eg after a reboot).
When I run System Update to a remote server - all is good. However I cannot get Update to work on the management server itself (localhost). Although update files are loaded successsfully into the \Packages folder, I get this error: "file deploy command failed.. Unable to connect to the remote system."
Having read a few similar posts here, it sounds like a problem with WMI - yes/no ??? When I run the Dell Troubleshooting Tool, WMI reports: "Failed to connect to - Windows Name Space"
From a command prompt I get "unable to intialize context... ditto remote omconnection. status=3329"
All of the above respond with a positive when I run them against the remote server (same subnet, 2008 R2).
Tell me I am missing something obvious..

Hi,
Thanks for your post. This behavior is intentional. OME server(Management Station) will not be able to patch itself. Typically there are multiple management/monitoring services running on that machine and patching and rebooting will result in disruption of those services. OME can be used to patch the servers you are monitoring (managed nodes). If you have to update the OME server, receommended way is to do it in isolated fashion using Server Updates Utility or Repository Manager.

Thanks Abhijit for your prompt response - that's good to know this is by design. At least I learned a lot about using OSE through my troubleshooting efforts!
Cheers

Here's the error
Device: ST9146852SS, Application: ST9146852SS Firmware. Operation was not successful because the device buffer write has failed. Run diagnostics to verify configuration and try again.
[repeated for second device (mirrored drives)]

Hi - I have loaded the updates with OME on the local machine and then run the (10) patch
executables manually. All installed okay with the exception of the SAS disk firware. I get the
following error:
What do you recommend?

I know this seems like an odd request, but can you run the update package manually (outside of OME) from safe mode? Please reply here if it works.

I think its silly you cannot update the management station from OME.
