Warranty Report showing multiple duplicate entries

I seem to be having an issue with the warranty status reporting on my Dell OME installation.  Previously I was running version 1.2.0, and I started noticing multiple entries for servers with less than 90 days of warranty remaining.  Originally there used to be one entry per service agreement per server, so I was used to seeing 2 entries for each server.  However, the problem gradually snowballed to the point where now I'm seeing a 90-day warranty report listing 1345 entries, when OME is only communicating with 94 servers, with only 9 servers that have reached the 90-day expiration period.

I performed the upgrade to 1.2.1 this morning, but the duplicate entries are still showing up in the warranty report.  Using the troubleshooting tool, I'm able to poll the correct information from the Dell Warranty API, which leads me to believe there may be some database entries that aren't getting cleaned up.

Any ideas on how to clean up these duplicates?  Is there something I can try from within the OpenManage Essentials web console?

If this topic has been covered in another thread, can someone point me in the right direction?

If you are comfortable with executing queries on your database directly (AFTER having done a backup for safety), you can use SQL Server Manager (free) and delete the entries from the Warranty table. The table gets re-populated when the report is run. Use the SQL statement below to clean up the table.

Delete from dbo.warranty

if you are not comfortable doing this, you can instead open a ticket and have the support guys review  (800-945-3355).

Hi and thanks for the post.

If I recall this correctly I think the web services that OME uses for warranty were changed and this introduced the problem.  In any event, this has been fixed in the next version of OME (currently under development) and scheduled to release this quarter.

Thanks,

Rob

OK, I guess I will wait patiently for the next version, and I'll keep my finger crossed!  Thanks for the reply.

Well, it's been a few months, and I've installed the latest version of OME (1.3.0.1533), including the Hotfix (HF1006.1.3) for the Heartbleed issue.  I'm still seeing multiple entries for the same servers in the Warranty Report.

Is this still a bug in the latest version of OME, or is there anything else I can try to remove the duplicates?

Looks like you upgraded from OME1.2? In any case try one or both of the following:

a)  Delete all devices and re-do the discovery and inventory

b)  If that doesn't work, go to the warranty table and delete the table and retrieve the data again.

From what we have seen there is a potential for this to happen when you upgrade from OME1.2 to OME1.3. But if that's the case then either #a or #b above will solve the problem. So let us know how it goes.

I can give that a shot.  For Step A, can I get away with just deleting the servers from the Manage --> Servers screen, or will I need to delete and recreate the associated discovery ranges as well?

Nevermind, I've tried deleting a couple of servers and their associated Discovery Ranges, and then re-adding them.  The multiple expired warranty entries for those servers re-appeared after re-adding them.

For Step B, how do I go about deleting the Warranty Table?  Sorry, I'm far from being an MSSQL Server guru...

I have this problem and my Dell OME server is a fresh install of 1.3.  I never had 1.2.

Rodsavard - this might be one of the issues from OME1.3 that we don't have a root cause for, yet.

Can you please try the steps (first re-discovery, if not, then delete Warranty table) as described above in this thread and let us know whether either works for you?

If neither does - we'd be very interested in knowing how to fix this issue, and you will help us by opening a support ticket. That way we can take a look at your setup and try to debug this issue. Thanks for your patience on this.

Maybe it has to do with some servers having multiple contracts.  ie, first year warranty is shown as a separate contract from the other years.  And then if the warranty is extended that is yet another contract.

Rodsavard - The issue you are talking of is clearer to me now.

This is the way the warranty report is displayed starting OME 1.3, based on customer feedback from previous OME versions.

Starting OME 1.3, in the warranty report, all associated  warranties will be displayed. This includes Expired, New and Renewed. In other words, if a server has an expired warranty and if it is later renewed, two warranties entries are displayed (just to preserve the history).

If this is clear to you, then you don't have to follow the delete steps I mentioned before. Even if you did, you didn't lose any warranty info, as the table will be re-created upon visiting the report page.

I'm still having the original issue.  I have the latest version of OME and the hotfix.  Started from a clean install of OME 1.3 so no upgrade from 1.2 involved here.  I deleted all records from the dbo.Warranty table but the Warranty Information report in OME still shows hundreds, if not thousands, of lines.  Before deleting the records from the dbo.Warranty table I noted that there were 197 records for 80 or so servers.  Inspecting these records I could see the Expired, Renewed, etc records for each server, so the 197 record count makes sense.  So the table contents align with PPrabhu's explanation of all associated warranties being displayed.

But, when viewing this in OME it explodes from 197 records to thousands.  Here, I can see tens of duplicate entries for the same Expired records (same timestamp, etc).  And I can't seem to get this report to refresh or re-create; it keeps reporting thousands of entries while at the same moment I can see the dbo.Warranty table remains empty.  Other suggestions?

We might need a ticket for this one - since we will need access to your Warranty report, and possibly your database.

Could you please open one?

I finally got the opportunity to install SQL Management Studio on my OME server, and executed the query to clean out the Warranty Table.  That seems to have done the trick - the massive amounts of duplicates have been cleared out from the report, and the remaining expired warranties appear to be unique.

Thanks for the help!
