Hi,

Here are the key points regarding the impact of uninstalling Dell EMC OpenManage (OMSA) on iDRAC9:

  1. Uninstalling OMSA will not cause any errors or malfunctions with iDRAC9. iDRAC9 is an embedded, out-of-band management controller that operates independently of the OMSA in-band software agent.
  2. The main difference between OMSA and iDRAC9 is that iDRAC9 provides comprehensive, embedded out-of-band management capabilities, while OMSA is an in-band software agent that requires an operating system to be installed.
  3. iDRAC9 offers a wider range of management functions compared to OMSA, including:
    • Server monitoring and alerting
    • Remote power control and virtual console
    • Firmware updates
    • Bare-metal server deployment and cloning
    • Configuration and drift detection
    • Secure USB connection to the iDRAC web interface
    • Advanced security features like cipher selection and system lockdown
  4. The iDRAC Service Module (iSM) can provide additional OS-related information and capabilities to iDRAC9, further enhancing its management functionality compared to OMSA. 1

In summary, uninstalling OMSA will not impact the functioning of iDRAC9, as iDRAC9 is a separate, embedded management controller that provides a more comprehensive set of management features compared to the in-band OMSA agent.

Hello, OMSA allows you to monitor and configure your server’s hardware, firmware, drivers, and applications. It also provides alerts and diagnostics for potential issues. If you uninstall OMSA, you will lose the ability to access these features and information via OMSA from your server. But you have still iDRAC9 to follow up some managment functions. However it might not have the same level of detail as OMSA.

Hope that helps!
