Some more information wouldn't hurt.

What OS on your host? (which SP)
What type of array?
Which version of data supervisor?

Checking the PV650F release notes ( here), it talks about that version in that document dating back to December 2000.

Try Windows 2000. The hardware pre-dates Windows 2003 and I don't believe Dell ever supported Windows 2003 on the 650, so your best bet is to try an OS that is about as old as the hardware is.

Do you have "Dell OpenManage Data Managed Node" installed?  That is the agent software.

The agent must be installed on a system that is connected to the PV650F via fibre(DAS or SAN).

Supervisor is install on a system (could be the same or different system as the agent) and communicates to the array via the agent.

I'm not sure where you can get Data Supervisor.

  • What path are you using to connect to the agent frrom Supervisor?
  • Do you have Supervisor installed and working on the other server mentioned?  If so, are you tring to connect from that server?  If not, try that.

From the Data Agent GUI, does it show the agent started?  Can you stop and restart the agent?

From within the GUI, try "Remove Service" -> "Install Service" -> "Start Service" from the "agent" dropdown, I'm not sure what else to try, hopefully someone else will have some ideas.  It has been at least 5 years since I've worked with the PV650F.

I would try repeating the remove-install-start service procedure.
I would look for the Data Agent installation on the PowerVault SAN CD.

It doesn't seem like you have the agent installed.  As far as I know Data Agent has always had a GUI.  It's default location is c:\Program Files\Dell\Data Managed Node\Data Agent.
