24" Ultra Sharp LCD Question

I started this thread with my question regarding my video card being able to run the 24" Ultra Sharp monitor with my 4700 Dimension 1 GB ram & Pent 4. I know I was going to buy it many months ago but some major money issues came up and now I'm able to purchase it. I have spoken to several people at work and they insist I have to upgrade my X300E 128MB card even though I'm only going to use it for Excel & Word with a little Photoshop Elements 5.0. Also does anyone know the space on each screen I will be able to work with on the 24" monitor, is it 2 17'' size windows? Thank you all for you comments or ideas. wslandry6

You can still use your video card on 24" lcd, but you just can't set it to the highest resolution.
Why bother for the upgrade if you are not going to use it?
If I were you, I would go for another 17" lcd for dual screen.
I watch lots of movies on my computer, so I like one 24" lcd better.

It would be two 10.25 inch wide windows.

I can't deal with the first issue, but I can address the second.

The 24" is 1920x1200. The 17" is 1280x1024. So the 24" is 50% wider (in pixels) and 17% higher (in pixels) than the 17".

The area (in pixels squared) for the 24" is 76% larger than the 17". So it is not "twice" the display area of the 17".

The 24" should seem very spacious. I got a 20" widescreen and use it with a 17" (dual monitors) and it is very nice.

Two 17" monitors would be much cheaper than a 24" and provide more pixels, but you have the obvious gap in the middle.
