9800xt on HL-2/ CS Source low fps?

​ 9800 256mb xt ​
​ pent. 4 ​
​ 2.6ghz ​
​ 1gb ram ​
​ ​
​ when i play cs source on the recommended settings im getting like 20-50 fps and its reallt jumpy. ​
​ when i turn the settings and resolution down it feels like im still getting low fps. ​
​ ​
​ Q? Should i be getting better fps? ​
​ Q? If YES, how do i? ​
​ Q? if NO, how do i get more? ​

yes! I played the hl2 demo on a p4 2.8ghz, 512 mb ram, intel graphics card, and got really good framrates at most scenes, except when I turned on the flashlight. something's going on with your rig. update bios, drivers, and make sure everything is functioning properly.

well, i dont know how do update bios, how do i update them?
 
what settings should i use?

make sure you're using cat 4.12  the 5.*'s seem to bork CS:S.

so why do they bog it down?

i actually just installed the cat 5.....

neway, are there bios for my video card? or something?
