A drive floppy disc

i may be in the wrong area--- i cant backup info onto a floppy as the computer doesn't recognize the disc.  i tried to manually open the disc with no luck nor will the drive recognize a disc to even open it.  I upgraded from windows me to xp last fall.  the A drive was working after that but the last few months has slowed to a stop

Is the floppy drive being detected in the BIOS?  Try clearing the NVRAM which will cause the system to redetect all the installed hardware including the floppy drive.

If you were having prior problems with the floppy drive it's possible the drive has failed.   If you continue to have problems post back with your Dell model number.

Posting your Dell model number would have been helpful.  Otherwise click here for an FAQ that will explain how to clear the NVRAM.
