Can't restart my computer
I'd like to say I'm a pretty computer savvy guy, but I acknowledge now I took all the wrong steps for what i am going to tell you. First, I was on my computer this morning and it was working fine, but at one point edge didn't reading so I restarted my xps 8700. However for about 5 minutes it was on the Windows do not turn off screen. I read online what the problem was and was told restarting on that screen wouldn't do harm. So I did that and an unreadable blue screen came up so I had to restart, this happened twice. The third time it went to your PC didn't start properly and went to the restore option. I clicked this and it was struck on the black screen with the blue windows icon, except without the loading circle. I had to leave so I turned off my PC entirely and completely unplugged it to come here. So, have I permanently bricked or broken my computer? What should I do? Second question: If I have to clean install I only have the windows 8 disk could I go back to 10?

That was not a "do not turn off screen" message. There is no message that says that. It was a Do not turn off your computer message since it was in the middle of an update which could take longer than 5 minutes. Have you already tried tapping F12 as soon as you reboot without waiting for any screen to get to the boot menu to select the diagnostics? Check all the hardware for errors. If it checks out OK--You can use a boot disk to try and boot the computer. You can make a new boot disk (win 10 install disk) by using the Create Media Tool. No need to go back to win 8 since you have a license for win 10. Create Media Tool--

Thanks for the tips I'll try when I get home. The screen thing was a phone auto correct.

Okay so it passed every test on the thing. I am now on automatic system restore with the blue windows logo and no circle, however it said before it started it will go to a previous working state. Is this normal and how long does it take? I will try the disk afterwards.
