Can't type the system password

Question

I set the computer so that it would ask for a password when I boot the computer up. I know the password and have written it down and everything. But when the computer boots up and asks "Type in password and press " it won't let me type. The flashing line is there, i'm typing in my password, but nothing is happening. Afer trying to enter the password without succsess for a few times, the computer starts beeping when i hit a key. Obviously this must mean that data is being sent from the keyboard, but the password won't show up one the screen. Thus when i press enter with a plank password it says "Incorrect Password. System Lock down blah de balh...." HELP!!! I CAN'T GET IT TO WORK

operating system is a windows xp

Do you have a USB keyboard?  If so, try using a different USB port, not one on the front of the computer. Steve

No its ur average keyboard (standard one sent with computer). I wont work!, I've tried other keyboards in the house

To at least get a working system try clearing the BIOS passwords.  Once the passwords are cleared the system will complete it's boot up and allow you to use it.
