Com port issues on Dell Latitude D620

Hello:

I have a com port issue with two Dell Latitude D620 laptops.

At work, we use an assortment of programs to program frequencies and functions into two way radios. The laptops connect to the radios by way of a serial interface. In order for the programs to "see" the com port, it has to be disabled, then enabled in Device Manager. After that, the programs will see the com port and read and write to the radio.

I would think that I shouldn't have to go through disabling and enabling the com port just to use the program softwave.

Does this sound like a problem anyone else has experienced? If so, how did you resolve the issue?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

John
