COM Port Question, Please ?
Hello:
Have a several year old Dimension XPS R 400 running W98.
Just bought a new sw radio, and there is software whereby you can control the radio from your PC. Would like to try it.
But, it says that it requires COM 1.
I know nothing about the COM Ports.
Tried looking in Device Manager, but it wasn't too helpful.
Just came up with the fact that there is a COM 1 and a Printer Port.
Nothing about what devices are using COM 1. The modem perhaps?
Anyway, it seems like COM 1 is already spoken for.
Do I have a COM 2, etc., also?
If someone could explain this COM Port business for me, I would be very appreciative.
If this radio control software really does require COM 1, and my COM 1 is already being used, what do I do?

I added a serial port that way for my work computer because I need a com port for the battery backup and one for my CNC milling machine.
Somebody correct me if I am wrong
