Confirmed video card upgrades for XPS 8500 ?

I would like to upgrade the video card in my XPS 8500 (currently has 7570). I've searched around, and literally can't find a single confirmation of a card that will fit and work (besides the other one Dell offers, 7770, I think it is). I would really like to drop in either a 6850, 6870, or 7850 (in order of least to most preferred). I've found a lot of info on cards that work with the old XPS 8300, which I believe uses the same PSU as the 8500. However, I'm unsure if the space limitations are the same in the XPS 8500 case compared to the 8300.

Would appreciate any info. Thanks!

I have installed a 7870 into the machine with no problems

Stock PSU was also used.

I am using a Sapphire HD 7870 Ghz Edition card Overclocked too!!!!.

I am able to play Battlefield 3 at Ultra with no problems.

Hello.

I have upgraded the 7570 to Sapphire Ghz Edition HD 7870 OC video card with no problems. Installation was extremely easy!!!!

Currently I have it overclocked to 1100Mhz and Memory Clock at 1350 Mhz I can run Battlefield 3 at Ultra with no problem just had to step down the anti aliasing due to the fact it is only a 2gb gddr5 card. I also have the stock PSU installed as well. I would not overclock past that point due to the PSU your system will crash.

System Specs:

OS - Windows 8 - 63 bit

Graphics Card - Sapphire Ghz Edition HD 7870 OC (GPU Clock(1100Mhz), Memory Clock(1350), VDDC(1250)) Overclocked with Sapphire TRIXX. Temperature under full load does not exceed 58 degrees Celsius running Battlefield 3 on Ultra.

Processor - Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.4Ghz

Ram - 8GB

HD - 1 TB Western Digital

PSU - Stock Dell 460 watt. If you want to push the card further get a larger PSU (600 + wattage) and a few more fans installed in the case.

I will be posting more scores from the card and the XPS 8500 after I receive Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, and Far Cry Blood Dragon. BTW its a perfect time to buy the card only about 200-240 and comes with 160 dollars worth of games.

Enjoy the hunt for the best solution!!!!

Its a retaining Bracket.  Keeps the card from being popped during shipping.

There are 3 places the card is held in.  That bracket , the back plate and the X16 socket clip.

I would like to know if I can fit a 10.5 inch card into a dell xps 8500. Specifically can I fit a geforce 780 into the xps 8500. I already upgraded my PSU to a corsair CX 750M and it works fine so all I need to know is if I have enough space to fit a 10.5 inch card

I don't see why not.  I just installed a Sapphire R9 280x in my XPS8500, I previously had a Sapphire HD7850 OC.   This card is crazy long.

Like that card...what power needs does it have - what's your power block size?

GTX1050 or 1060 is fine with the Stock power supply.   HOWEVER Bios must be current AND Secure boot must be OFF with LEGACY CSM ON.

If you keep asking DELL, they will never tell you a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti will fit in a XPS 8500 with a 460 watt power supply and work, with 1440p res.

However if there is a good reason why, I would like to know ?

BTW, almost all video cards can be purchased in the correct size for your tower

I have A GeForce GTX 1080 TI in my XPS 8500 with 460 watt power supply.

If you buy the card to fit a mini tower it will fit, some cards are made to fit in smaller places, as far as size goes GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, fit in my DELL XPS 8500 and at this time is the largest one on record to work. Beyond that, would probably harm your PC, unless you added a CPU water cooler radiator.

If you have issues with the power in the top of the card you can use the EVGA POWERLINK to move it to the side.
