continuing problems

Purchased a new computer 5 months ago , 8100 series. Have had contining problems. Since 10-6-01 have talked with 22 techs from around the world. Have spend over 85 hours either waiting on the phone or talking with tech from India, canada, Texas, Tenn, Ga and Fla.
They have replaced the hard drive, memory, video card, mother board and have downloaded drivers and have run dianostics twice.
They have had me move the computer to another room, Take it to my office(30 miles away) and also change monitors.
They download drivers and in about 2 hours, The same problem returns, now they want me to reinstall windows me again.
They problem is the start button and the start menu becomes hazy, distorted and will change colors.
I have been on the phone for an hour waiting to get on line with someone. I did get on line at a number that a person in India told me to call and then I was told that it was the wrong extension then he said he would transfer to the right number, after 30 minutes, I gave up.
I paid $1675.48 for a system that no one seems to know how to repair. I didn't pay that much money for a computer that doesn't work.
Also I paid for the next business day on site response 2 year extended contract.
Does anyone know how I bring a legal action or does anyone know where I serve them. I am located in southern California.
My e-mail address is josan6@home.com and would appreciate any help or direction from anyone.
Thanks

Have you posted this in the Customer Service-General section? I am also curious as to why you were asked to call India?? Have a good day, Paul

I had a somewhat similar problem with a Compaq Deskpro at work a few months back. It was about 1 week out of the box when not only the start button but eventually other items such as menu and title bars would become distorted. Believe it or not, resetting the CMOS corrected my problem.

You may have already tried this, but if not:
Shut down PC
Disconnect Power
Remove cover
Find CMOS jumper: It should be labeled
Pull and move to whatever the reset setting is on your board
Leave for about 45 seconds.
Pull and replace to original setting
Close cover
Replace Power cord
Power up.
You'll get some POST messages but just follow the prompts.

If this doesn't help, or if you've tried, hope you get some relief because they've got you on a wild goose chase it seems.

Hope this helps
Good Luck
JS

HI,
I am having a somewhat similar problem. I bought a 8100 about 7 months ago, and the thing just doesn't work. I am located in Geneva, Switzerland. Until now, people in Dell are telling me they are going to replace my computer, but it is just a bunch of lies. My customer number isn't even recognised by what they call "Dell Customer Service". Right now, I am on the phone since about 15 minutes, and they still can't get get my order. I want to sue, and will be gald to have some info on how to do that.
Thanks
Luis

Hi
Just a word to say that my replacement computer is, at last, under way.
