Dell Dimension 5000 PSU Replacement

Hi - I have a Dell Dimension 5000 (circa 2005) with a duff ATX PSU.

The Dell p/n is CN-OC5201-17972-51R-1CNV and the model # is N305P-00

I've looked on this forum and the only recommended non-Dell equivalent PSU (Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-430 430W ATX12V 2.01 Power Supply) doesn't seem to be available (UK).

Does anyone know of a compatible make/model PSU that I can replace my duff psu with or where I can get a direct DELL replacement for a reasonable price?

I think my DELL psu has these connectors:

P1 - 24 pin ATX  motherboard power
P2 -  4 pin motherboard power
P3  - 4 pin SATA connector
P5  - ditto
P7 -  4 pin floppy connector
P8 -  4 pin Molex power connector
P9 -  ditto

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

Corsair is an excellent brand of power supply, with a good warranty

The Corsair CX 400W ATX2.2 Power Supply, would be compatible with the Dimension 5000.

The Dimension 5000 does not use a Dell proprietary power supply, most standard ATX power supplies with either a 24-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector, with, or without, the on/off switch can be used, a power supply with two SATA power connectors is needed.

You should be able to buy a replacement power supply from a local or online computer store.

Thanks for the reply Bev.

Would all standard ATX power supplies fit into the Dell Dimension case or will I have to be selective and get one exactly the same size as the original?

Yes, they should be, when you find a suitable PSU, you could post a link to it here and I'm certian that either myself, or another member will tell you, il the power supply is compatible.

Thanks Bev,

The one I've looked at is the Corsair from Novatech:

Would this do? It seems to have all the connectors I need (see above) and the price is OK too!

Is this a reasonable quality psu and will it fit nicely into my PC chassis  without any jiggering about?

Hello, not to bring an old thread back but this seams like the perfect place to ask. Would any standard atx psu work in a dimension 5000?

Yes, I'm not worried about that, I know what is and isn't a good psu, but would a standard psu work in the dimension 5000?

There are many Junk Brands of ATX power supply out there.  They are VERY VERY cheap at $29 or LESS.

Using them will result in a totally destroyed computer as they are almost always fake 150W power supplies that claim to be 450W or higher.

Some time since this post and I think that Corsair have updated their range.  I notice they now do a CX430 and a CX500.  Will either of these be a direct replacement for the one in my Dell Dimension 5000?  If so which would be the best to get.

Either will work, but I think it would be best to go for the CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply.
