Dell Precision 490 and Processor Upgrades
I have a Dell Precision 490 workstation with bios release A03 from 12/22/06. There is a bios upgrade for the system to A08 but the support website says absolutely nothing for what it does for you (nice to know before you apply it). I'm currently running a single processor, Dual-Core 5160, 3ghz. How do I determine if the motherboard I have would support a quad-core processor? I could just get another 5160 same as I already have to increase performance but I'd really like a quad-core if possible. Anyone have any suggestions other than the safe bet of getting another 5160?

You have the Woodcrest motherboard TX883 which only supports Xeon Woodcrest CPUs. The 5160 is the best you can do in there. For Quad Core, you would need the Clovertown motherboard, DR054.

How would I know which kind of motherboard I have?
Where to check. is it Woodcrest motherboard or Clovertown motherboard ?
