Dell Studio One 19 Owners Thread

I recently purchased a Studio One 19 Touchscreen with the Mother's Day Anniversary sale, and I haven't seen a single forum thread dedicated to it.  So here goes a start!

I chose my Studio One 19 over the Apple iMac and the Sony All In One because I wanted a touch screen.

I chose my Studio One 19 over the HP Touchsmart for its performance and price (desktop MB and CPU and its price fully loaded the price was still cheaper than a low end HP Touchsmart!).  The multitouch support was also a nice advantage over HP.

Has anyone received delivery yet?  Any reviews from real world users?

UPDATED 8/1/2010.

KNOWN ISSUES:

1) Noisy oscillating fan. Speeds up and down making a constant whishing sound. SOLUTION: Update to BIOS A08 or later.

2) Random year change to future date e.g. 2075. SOLUTION: Update to BIOS A09 or later.

WINDOWS 7

How I installed a fresh Windows 7 x64 on my Dell Studio One 19

Install Dell A07 BIOS
Clean install Windows 7 Ultimate
Install Dell Nvidia driver (also updates SATA driver), then install OEM Nvidia driver
Install Dell Realtek Audio + dvd eject driver. DO NOT install Dell Touchscreen driver as it does not work with MS Touch Pack
Update Windows
Install Dell Fingertapps Touch Zone.
Install Dell Cozi YouPaint, Dell TouchCam, TouchCam Update

Install MS Touch Pack. Find here - http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/showthread.php?p=179262
    Install MS XNA 3.0
Install MS Bing Virtual Maps 3D
    Install MS Touch Pack
Install Next Window Touch Screen Driver 1.3.2.5. Find here - http://www.nextwindow.com/nextwindow_support/download_confirm.html
Optional - Uninstall MS XNA 3.0, Install MS XNA 3.1
    Optional - Update Nvidia PhysX

All Dell Touch Zone applications and Microsoft Touch Pack applications work.

FYI there are three different touch screen drivers for the Dell 1909
-Windows 7 default
-Dell signed NextWindow
-NextWindow

The Windows 7 default driver and Dell signed NextWindow driver allow you to use all the Dell Touch Zone applications,
but does not work with the MS Touch Pack applications.
The NextWindow driver 1.3.2.5 allows you to use all of the applications in MS Touch Pack and Dell Touch Zone.

Is your studio one on Windows 7? I don't have this issue, and I just updated my BIOS to version A07.

When I got my studio one (Vista), I immediately uninstalled the touch software running on the bottom of the screen, it was making my font and icon blown up and really weird looking (I can't believe my eyes when its turned on for the 1st time,  Dell's third party software really sucks!!).  Then I went on and uninstalled a whole bunch of other stuff, like that fast access thing, even the little software for the Disk Eject touch surface (I didn't know what it was since it was just called OSD, I installed it back in after realizing what it is)

So maybe what you can try is uninstall some of the Dell's softwares and see if the problem persist.  It might be a software issue.

yea, actually I have an old Dell laptop that definitely have a defective cmos battery and the laptop battery is died as well, but it still works, and once every month I turn it one for some specific things, and the date goes back to year 2000, which make sense since that's probably the default starting date or when the hardware was made, but its weird if it goes forward to 2075.  Good luck and keep us posted!

I agreed with you Roguish, We are running Windows Vista.  I removed all third party software from the units, including dell software, updated from A05 to A06 to A07 but then again A07 was introduced strictly to be compatible for windows 7. I only left the pc with the barebone essentials and the OSD(Monitor Program).  Since the company that i work for is a national health company and we have a national contract starting Jan 1, 2010 with Dell, I was escalated to some "higher up" at Dell, Don't know exactly what he's going to do.  For the last two weeks I have been searching online and I know we are not the only ones experiencing the issue.  The only reason why Roguish and myself have noticed it is because we have multiple units and at lot of my software depends on having the correct year or else it won't work at all.

Please for those that think is a CMOS issue, i beg to differ. Normally when theres an issue with the CMOS Battery you will revert back to package date or last time BIOS recorded a date. I have never seen a CMOS Battery issue where the date instead of reverting, it goes up to 2075.  and what's so interesting is that time, day and month stay intact just the year.

Unfortunately, I have 2 Studio 19s that are experiencing the same problem.  Both are Vista 64-bit.  Haven't called Dell yet - but I can't believe it's a CMOS battery issue, since it happens while the PCs are powered on.  Dates definitely go whacky - which definitely messes up AV support, internet certificate verifcation, etc.  Pretty frustrating...

if the camera doesn't work, you need to activate it in the device manager.

Hope it helps

To those that have been having the year 2075 problem:

I don't think its hardware/CMOS related.  I think its probably software related.  One way to see if this is true is to do a complete fresh (e.g. format HD, etc) install of the OS and see if the problem still occurs.

Since I installed Windows 7 (fresh install), I have not had the problem recur.  Good luck.

Mark - when we receive our systems we always remove all factory installed software and reimage the systems becuase they are being used for business purposes.  Others do the same that I am aware of but maybe it has to do with a particular driver etc...even through it is a simple change in the bios when you have these systems all over the country it is not always the easiest task.

Let us know how long you make it before it happens again!

Mark,  How is the Studio 19 doing after installing Windows 7? Planning on doing the same, anything I need to be aware of except for updating the BIOS to A07?  Any driver issues?

Thanks

I've already done a re-install of Vista 64-bit (which is what the system came with).  I did a pretty bare-bones install - didn't reinstall any touch screen stuff install, just the basic video/audio drivers, as well as the utility for the OSD/CD eject button.

Obviously - still have the problem.    Going to call Dell again in a few minutes.  Called earlier in the week - tech had me run diagnostics and then had me change the date in the BIOS (as opposed to changing in Windows).  Of course that made absolutely no difference - problem reocurred that night.

Hi All,

A number of people have been after a version of Dell Touch Zone that will work with Windows 7, it's now available for download from Dell Support.

In addition to adding Windows 7 support (both 32 or 64 bit are supported in this build) there are also a number of performance enhancements and general fixes.  If anyone has questions you can post here as our support team will be keeping an eye on this thread to help with questions about Dell Touch Zone.

cheers

A followup - Dell came out and swapped system boards last Tuesday.  Year changed again sometime over the holiday weekend, so swapping the board made no difference.

System have been replaced in our end but still same issue.  I will be sending all my units back to dell as they are not able to come up with a solution.

The boards don't make a difference but I had 5 systems change over the weekend as well.  Where are you located mark?  I wonder what our PC's have in common that would prompt the date to change.  It seems like people have changed everything and nothing has worked. Something beyond hardware is bad and I am really at a loss for what it could be.

I work in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Am talking with Dell at the moment - going to see what else we can do to get the problem escalated/resolved.

My was going to 2075 and 7509. They sent a tech to replace the motherboard and HD. The date problem didn't come back yet. But now my lower USB port on the side is working properly. All others are fine, lower one recongnizes something plugged in but it says unknown. Now i've upgraded to Win7 and still have the issue. Trying to get Dell to straighten it out, but no luck yet.
