Did system restore but now missing files
On 12/18 I did a system restore. Everything seemed to be fine but now I noticed a bunch of files have either been moved and I cannot find them or they have been removed completely. How did this happen if when the system restore program starts it states that it is safe for emails, files, etc.
I would like to know if they haven't been deleted, where are they? Is it possible to do a system restore somewhere else other than through Accessories-System Tools? I remember doing a system restore on a different computer a long time ago hitting F8? Thanks.

Where were the original files located prior to the restore?

Try restoring back to where it was on the desktop (you can "undo" restore points). Then put it in your "My Documents" folder or back it up on floppy or cd.

There's a "last known good configuration" option after F8 but I doubt that will work. If you know the name of the file, try searching for it after restoring your system back to the original state. What you don't want to do is add software and/or programs or defrag while you're attempting to locate this folder.

If it's really critical, there are companies that specialize in data recovery.
