I received my Dimension 4100 866 in Dec. It constantly loads at 52bps I hada 166 pentium before,this one is very fast compared to my old 166.
finger crossed.. I have had no problems at all except one time. I had to call Dell tech,regardless of the bad things I have read on thre forum here.I was connecetd witha tech in less than 10 min and my problem was solved in less than 15 min

When I go to system toold and drive space -- it only shows my a drive. Where would I find the C drive?
Also, when in device manager it lists Ultra storage contoller, as well as a primary and secondary IDE. I do not have a second HD. Why would this be listed under hard disk controllers in device manager.

Also, I have 512 MB SDRam; yet, available memory is less then half of that. I have friends with 128 MB SdRam and they have a higher percentage of free memory.
Anyone know why and how to resolve these issues.
Also, am having problems (sometimes!) when trying to defrag!
Does anybody have any thoughts on any or all of these issues.

The speed at which a computer connects to the internet does not depend on the speed of the processor nor the amount of memory available. An old 486 100 mhz with 16 MB memory will connect at the same speed as a P4 1.5 Ghz with 256 Mb memory. What limits the connection speed (including loading of pages and displaying images) is the speed of modem, the quality of the phone lines, and general internet traffic. You will never be able to connect at faster than 56 k with a dial up modem. If you want higher speed then you need to go with a cable or DSL modem.

First, why do want to run drivespace? If you have windows ME, I don't think drivespace will run on on a Hard Drive.

Windows always uses a high percentage of available RAM, and will release it only when you close programs. You will always have problems running scandisk or defrag if other programs are running in the background and writing to the hard drive. To eliminate this problem, use Cntrl-Alt-Del to close down all programs running in the background one by one (don't close systray or explorer). Then run scandisk or defrag. Alternatively, run these programs in safe mode. Hope this helps.

If you are using WinME double click the my computer icon on the desktop, then you can right click/properties for any hard drive listed to see the space available etc.
The Ultra storage controller is the "main" controller for the two (ie primary and secondary) IDE slots located on the mother board that your hard drives and cd drives connect to with the ribbon cables.

The low memory is due to WinME being a RAM hog and you could go to tweakfiles.com and look thru the memory section for RAM Idle and/or Memory Cleaner. Both free ware and work quite well with my Dimension 8100 w/WinME. After a Memory cleaning and a RAMIdle clearing my free RAM usually goes up to 182Mbs out of 256Mbs, even after a long day of gaming and surfing.
