Drive 3 and 4 not found, BOOTMGR is missing problem

Recently i had a friend wipe out my hard drive for the xps 420 so i can install new software and after i put it back in and started it up, Then I got a message saying:

Drive 3 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-3

Drive 4 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-4

Alert! Failed to detect one or more drives during POST. Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility. Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics

then, when I press f1 to continue, it says:

BOOTMG is missing

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to continue

I cannot login to the computer ever since and need help

It appears that your disk is not bootable. Is it a Dell disk? What does it say on it?

You will not find Vista for sale except perhaps on Ebay.  Your system will run Windows 7 so that would be your best bet.

I would first go back inside the computer and make sure all your connections are correct. Sometimes its easy to disconnect things when putting a drive back in.

Also since the drive is wiped there is no OS on it. You need to reinstall windows.

You should not need to login to install. You should only have to insert the disk in the drive and boot the computer.

If you have to login  before then you have a bios password set. Is this where you are saying you need to log in?

I do put in the disk and the message comes right after you see the loading screen with the dell logo. It just pops up the error and wont load anything. Do i have to go to a setting in order to run it?
