E521 diagnostic lights but diagnostic disk says all OK?

During boot sequence, the diagnostic lights on the front panel flash 34, 24, 234, and 123.  Then it clears and boot proceeds normally.  (This is after i replaced the hard drive which was giving errors).  Running the Dell Diagnostic disk I get no errors?  Before I make a significant investment of time reinstalling all the software, I am hoping to see what this means.  The manual provides interpretation of the codes, but it is a mis-mash.  If all those errors were true, would it still boot OK to windows and the diagnostics disk show no errors?

Thanks for any advice

It can display various lights while booting up.  If there are no diagnostic lights lit after boot up that means it's OK.   If there were a problem it would stop with some light combination.

Keep in mind with your reinstall that almost all Dell's require (1) Install Windows (2) Install chipset drivers (Intel or Nvidia as applicable) (3) Install Device Drivers such as sound, video, ethernet, etc.

thanks for the prompt response.  I have had the machine for 2 years, but can't say that I looked at those lights during boot up before (it is under the desk).  It crashed 2 weeks ago during defrag, I re-installed all the software and it seemed OK for awhile but kept getting random errors.  then it would not boot.  ran the diagnostic disk which showed disk errors, so I replaced it.  I am proceeding with re-installing all the software again, a whole weekend exercise.
