Floppy drive problem

I am writing this for a friend who lives in the next town.  I am not at his computer.

The floppy drives takes a long time to save even a very simple document.  When the disk is taken to another computer either the other computer does not see the document on the disk (it was there on the computer in question) or causes problems (in one case Word shut down).  We have tried this on several different computers.

What should my first step be when I get to his computer?

Thanks

See if this article can help you troubleshoot the floppy drive.
