Graphics Card problems

Question

I own a Dell Dimension 2400 with an integrated graphics card and I am trying to install a new one. I've gone through Dell support, ATI support (makers of the new graphics card) and have searched all over the web. My computer doesnt want to recognize that the new card is even there. One time with Dell support we did manage to get the new hardware wizard to run and were able to install drivers from the cd. After rebooting the computer with the monitor connected to the new card there was no display. I couldnt even find the card listed in the device manager. I've done lots of things to try and resolve it...I've enabled PCI slots in my BIOS and also set video controller to auto. Ive also set shared video memory to its lowest setting in the BIOS. I've uninstalled the drivers for the integrated card and disabled it, nothing seems to work. The new card is a Radeon9250 PCI. Is there anyone that can give me any information on how to fix this? Is the card bad? Do i possibly need to upgrade something like my motherboard or my BIOS? Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd make sure you have the newest BIOS, since that could help. But ATi's cards aren't as compatible as Nvidia's. You may have had better luck with a Geforce card (and they're more powerful)...although I've seen people having trouble getting them to work on systems with integrated video too.

* Look at the top of this Dimension- Video board
* Click on "FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) DRIVERS (Radeon, Nvidia, Intel) UPGRADES, ERRORS, CORRUPTION"
* Under General Questions, click on "Possible PCI video card upgrades, Dimension V, L, 2100, 2200, 2300, 2350, 2400, 3000"

I've got the same card plus An ATI TV Wonder Ve. And the similar problem...Am working on a solution and will try to keep you informed. Ati has been helpful, but no cigars yet.

Thanks for all of the responses :)   Tigerwolf...I've looked into upgrading my BIOS but I'm not sure where to go or what to get or if I can even manage it on my own. Any further help you could give would be appreciated. Drew....I didn't have the option to disable my video controller in the BIOS just to set it for Onboard or Auto. Just go to Dell's download site and select your system type. It's pretty straight forward. Don't run other programs while you're updating the BIOS though, and don't do it during a thunder storm or something where you might lose power. The whole process takes less than a minute.

Ok Tigerwolf, I found the BIOS update I need and I downloaded it, created a floppy and rebooted. But it keeps saying Non-system disk or disk error...what am I doing wrong?

Well, still no luck. I've tried every PCI slot and the motherboard still isnt picking it up. Guess I'll have to try another card. Any suggestions on a good one that has pixel shading? Thanks for the help :)

No solutions from me - just confirming that I seem to be having identical problems   I have a dimension 2400 and am trying to fit a PowerColore Radeon 9250 128mb card (which works fine in my ancient Compaq!) but the card isn't detected at all during power-up   I disabled the intel graphics and checked the BIOS settings for  video (they were already set to 'auto')   I removed the modem and tried swapping PCI slots - did manage to manually install the drivers (the install program checks for a card present and had failed every other time, so must've picked something up) but when I attached the monitor it just power-saved off... :-(   Am thinking of going down the NVidia route, but don't want to spend more on another card that fails too?
