Help. Only can boot on safe mode

XPS E520. With slow performance, so my child thought he could fix it by restore OS (Window XP Media Center). He did not consult me and used the OS CD coming with purchase to reinstall OS. But, it turns out, it can only boot on safe mode.

Tried to restore. But, restore program said there is no restoration.

What can I do to resolve this trouble? I do not want to reformat. That is not a option at all.

we have to know the exect errors being given. you can also look at the app and system event logs for errors. you might have to reinstall the service pack that you had installed before the re-install.

You can try doing a repair. boot with the OS disk in the drive and select the repair option. This might fix it. I'm thinkinkg that it may be beyond that point and you will have to do a completed reinstall.

Does the XPS E520 come with the special Dell restore partition?

This is separate and different from using the OS disk to reinstall.

I have used it for years but not recently since I will no longer buy any Dells.

Dells used to ship with this in a special hidden partition that brings back the original configuation when you first bought the machine.

But unless you made backups, all your personal settings and data are already gone when the OS was reinstalled with a disk.
