Image on ST2320L monitor connected by HDMI cable does not fill screen
Hi Forum,
I have a Dimension 8300 desktop with ST2320L w/s monitor. The monitor was quite happily working with a VGA cable connection.
Today I bought a HMDI cable and replaced the VGA cable whilst computer was off (i.e. now just connected with HMDI cable). On turning on, an image is displayed but with black bars around all edges: about 1cm top/bottom, 2cm left/right.
I then went into Control panel and checked resolution which shows as: Dell ST2320L_HMDI, 1920x1080 (recommended) and Landscape.
I then entered monitors own settings by clicking on the touch buttons on bottom right corner of screen. Whether input source is auto selected, or I select HMDI myself makes no difference. For Display settings "Fill" as opposed to 4:3 is selected. The Horizontal/vertical position options are greyed out. The Menu confirms the resolution displayed as 1080p, albeit with the black bars around all sides I have.
I can't see what else to do. Help!
Thanks!
Mark

Many thanks to bacillus for your advice. Whist I'm no nearer a solution, a lot of potential reasons have now been eliminated. Anyone else able to assist? Thanks.

Hi Osprey4,
Done some Googling - see this is a known issue with lots of forum threads
I followed the advice exactly by HomerPepsi here (but using later version numbers of what he used):
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2261428
Instructions were very detailed, and seemed to contain a catch all for doing a clean uninstall, as if I understand it, it's that without doing a complete uninstall, bits are left behind which stops the install from doing so correctly and then CCC not opening.
After doing all this, CCC still refuses to open - Windows just thinks about it for a few seconds - no error messages.
To recap:
I'm running Win 7 64 bit with SP1 and .Net framework and all updates to all this lot that Dell kindly does for me. I'm completely up-to-date.
My graphics card is the ATI Radeon HD 5770
I have installed v.12.3 of the Catalyst Software Suite from here: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx#1
Device manager \ Display adapters shows I'm using v.8.951.0.0 dated 08/03/2012 for the ATI Radeon HD 5700 series.
Now what's left to do?
Thanks!
Mark

Hi Mark,
Did you see this wiki? If you are unable to access the catalyst control center, you are not going to be able to fix this. If that's the case, my suggestion would be to uninstall the CCC and download the newest version from the AMD site and reinstall it.

Mark,
Ok, similar but not exactly the same, so please try Dell-Chris M's instructions. Have the current full driver/CCC package downloaded and ready to install, rather than the Dell driver.

"To fix your issue with the black borders follow this:
1) Right click on the Desktop or the programs tabs in the start menu and open Catalyst Control Center
2) Switch to Advanced mode if you are not there already
3) Click dropdown menu Graphics in the top right
4) Select Desktops and Displays
5) Right Click your currently activated display under `Please Select a Display' on the bottom right
6) Select Configure
7) Click on the Scaling Options tab and your there
8) Now, just move the scale to the right (overscan) until you get full screen (in most peoples cases, it is at 0%)

Did you get a chance to try Dell-Chris M's procedure?

My computer has a different graphice card, but the same monitor and I had the same problem you are having when I had to replace the graphics card. I played around with the computer for 4 hours with no success and beings I was still under warranty I called Dell and let them get into my computer to see what they could do. After 3 1/2 hours and 3 techs they finally got everything working. They ended up installing a older version of CCC not the latest. I just checked what version I have and it is as follows: 2008.0828 which I assume is the date it was released. Then it has 2144.37162. They also loaded Microsoft net frame work 3.5 sp1. After doing that the CCC is working fine and show scaling again. I don't know if any of this will help, but it sounds like you are about at the end of your patience like I was. Good luck and hope things wortk out.

HDMI cable. Black border all around the screen. Means you have to adjust the underscan. How this is done Depends on the display as well as the Video Card.

I understand the underscan needs to be adjusted, but that option is not available in the Catalyst Control Center. The issue I have is buying a brand new desktop system (tower and monitor in the same box) and it does not work correctly!!
Underscan adjustment is not an option in advanced mode on this system (Dell Inspiron i570-6690BK Desktop PC and Monior). It should be as simple as pull it out the box and hook it up, it should be compatible.

Have you tried with a DVI cable rather than the HDMI? Same quality video and you don't need sound with that monitor.

I have it fixed I had the exact same problem and was quite frustrated but kept working it your notes were very helpful so here's the fix:
ms netframe version 2 installed
open ccc desktop
choose desktop and displays
at the bottom of the panel you will see your monitor
click the down arrow and choose configure
tabs will show at the top choose attributes
place a check in enable scaling
then click scaling options
you will see the slider
move to overscan until your screen fills
that's it hope this works for you it did for me but wouldn't be possible without your info, thanks.
