Installing additional fan on Dimension 8300

I would like to install additional cooling fan in my soon to come 8300.  I am considering to install a PCI slot fan and wondering if there's any additional power outlet on the mother board.  My 8300 is going to arrive soon with the new Prescott CPU and I read that they tends to generate much more heat and I am concerned as Dell does not seemed to make any modifications on their fans.  Any feed back will be appreciated.

Just the one for the CPU fan.

A PCI slot fan does not connect to the motherboard, it has a "Y" splitter for connecting to the 12v wiring.

Yes.  I did and haven't looked back.  BUT! it does add a fair amount of noise.  So, if you're picky about noise, I'd skip it.  Dell isn't going to sell you a computer that's going to overheat.

Yes,  here's a link to Newegg showing a PCI Slot Fan.

This is the manufacturer's product link to the above.

How about the issue of power supply.  As far as I know,  the 8300 comes with only 250W of PS and my specs are

P4 Prescott 3.0G

2X128 PC3200 (going to upgrade, but no idea which ram yet, but going to get 2X256 PC3200)

40G HD

128 GEForce FX 5200

8X DVD+R/RW

50X CD ROM(from my old 2400)

Will the PS be an issue if i install the fan?

Nope.  Run a "Y" connector off one of the PS leads if needed, though I'm not sure where you'd mount the fan unless it was under the drive cage....(or get a PCI slot fan/cooler)

There is no power issue with installing a slot fan, it's requirements are very small.

Beware.....installation of additional fans depending on location can result in degradation of cooling to areas inside the chassis. You would need to read temps under various ambient temperatures and loads to really determine the effect. Airflow isn't all that intuitive.Beyond a certain point adding fans can actually generate more heat and be totally ineffective. But it is an adventure!
