Logging into AOL

I have a new dimension pc and every time I login to AOL (software preloaded) I get a error "Access company failed to respond properly" with the first attempt using a specific phone number. It then switches to the second try using the same phone number and I connect OK. Whaaaasup with that?

Probably just AOL is too busy. Commonly happens to me. Try loading a different access number for the first try.

I have read several posts that say disabling the AOL Dialup Adapter in Device Manager sometimes works. It might be worth a try.

Assuming you have WinMe and AOL 5.0 do this:

Right click on My Computer/properties/device manager/network adapters/right click on aol dialup adapter/properties/check disable in this profile/ok/reboot. This allowed me to connect to AOL on the first try nearly every time.

There is also an AOL/WinMe conflict that can cause your PC not to shutdown completely. Removing the AOL systray program from the startup group fixed this problem for me.

Hey!! Finally something that worked. I was able to get on with the first dial-up. Thanks Spike
