Loose power cord, computer shuts down if touched

Hi,

I recently bought a Dell XPS 8500, and I've been trying to ignore this problem but it is just too bad.

The main power cord in the back of the tower (the one that plugs into the wall) is so loose that the whole machine shuts down if it's even nudged slightly.

I didn't want to say anything because I was afraid I might have to mail the machine back. Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks,

swankymoppet

Hi swankymoppet,

As per the description of the problem, it could be the power cord or the port on the power supply unit.

To isolate the problem I would suggest you to swap the monitors power cable with the computers power cable and check if the system is switching off.

If the issue persists the power supply unit needs to be replaced.

Kindly post the results.

hey, that actually worked. the monitor cable plugged into the computer is way more stable, no more accidental nudge-shutoffs. i guess it must have been the power cord.

Hi swankymoppet,

The faulty power cable needs to be replaced.
In case the system has active warranty, please private message the system service tag, contact number and registered owner’s name. I would be glad to arrange for a replacement of the power cable.
To private message, click on my user name , select Ädd as a friend and click Start conversation.

To check the Warranty status use this link:  http://tinyurl.com/5r4b8j

If the warranty of the system is not active, part number: “5120P” for the power cord can be purchased online or at a local electronic store at a cost effective price.

Awaiting your response!
