I don't know what brand of video card you have, but if have an ATi Radeon and have the Catalyst 3.8 drivers installed, you may want to uninstall them, install the 3.7's (using the instructions in ChrisM's FAQ) and then load the new monitor drivers.

ortleeb just a question. Did you go back to version 3.8? Last Sat I decided to go back to 3.7 and had all kinds of problems so I installed 3.8 again. There is 1 thing I don't understand. When I look at my cookies there is an ATI cookie even though I didn't go to their site. I delete it but the next day it comes back. Do you know why?

I still have the 3.7's. My card is performing well (my AquaMark3 score is actually slightly better with them) and the 3.9's will probably be coming out in the next several weeks. What kind of problems did you have with them?

As for the cookie, I don't know why its there. I'm not at the machine in my sig right now to see if I have it but from what you described it sounds like it comes included with the driver package and loads each time the drivers load. You may want to email ATi and ask them about this.

I have a cable connection and was having problems. I usually have download speeds around 3000 but was experiencing very erratic downloads around 400. The cable company just left after replacing my modem and things are back to normal. I blame my problems with trying to install 3.7 on that. I'm going to stay with 3.8 untill 3.9 comes out. I still get that cookie "ati" showing up. Wonder what it is?

I don't think the driver download affected the cable but just the reverse. I never thought about contacting ATI but now I will. Thanks for the suggestion. I will let you know.

I remember reading a couple of posts in another forum (I think it was Rage3d) about a connection slow-down after installing drivers but I can't remember if it was the 3.7's or the 3.8's. Maybe its just a coincidence. Anyway, I'm interested to see what ATi has to say about their cookie.

I just sent them an email from their customer support site. You may be right about the cable modem. The cable tech who came over said Adelphia is in the midst of updating their whole system. Also, some customers were having problems with the com21 modem and so he installed a terayon modem. So far it's excellent. I'm averaging  2800 download. I'll let you know what ATI's response is.

I have adelphia with the Surfboard SB 3100 modem and I get about 1100 downstream which is as good as I ever get. 2800 is really fast. Maybe I should give adelphia a call.

I wonder how it could have affected your cable modem? Does the cable company have any idea? BTW, I don't have the ATi cookie. Maybe it only comes packaged with 3.8's. Did you contact ATi about it?

I posted re the ATi cookie in another forum and I got this from another 3.8 user:

Running 3.8s -

Has an ATi cookie from the site, deleted it, restarted and nothing else appeared so it must be a fluke.

Could be from him having a shortcut to the ATi site somewhere that he has accessed, or even a link on the IE links bar.

You might want to check this out.

Thanks ortleeb. I just did a search for it and it and it does not show up. It's not there now under cookies but when I get off the computer I'll see if it came back. I wonder if it has any thing to do with my bad install? Also after I installed the update I got the pop up saying do I want to register ( I don't remember what)  at ATI. Since I don't think you have to register downloads I clicked cancel. Maybe it has some thing to do with that.

I can't believe how great this new modem is. My connection is very stable and download speeds are very consistent. With the other modem I could check 3 times in a row and vary by 1500k. Do you ever go to the Adelphia site on broadband reports.com? Here is the link.

Every time I've installed new ATi drivers I've gotten the registration pop-up. Thanks for the link. I don't check my speeds very often but I'm going to over the next couple of days to see how consistent they are.
