Media card reader won't read miniMMC card

The media card reader in my Studio XPS 8100 will not read a miniMMC card. Other cards work fine. The card works fine in other readers. I tried updating the driver with R245429.exe, but the problem persists. Is that the correct file for the latest drivers? Do I need to replace the reader? It's a Foxconn card reader, FITI PID9106--right? I need help in troubleshooting this problem. Thanks.

Always include version of Windows in your posts.

Are you sure your card reader supports that kind of card? Did it ever read this card?

There are several 'flavors' of MMC cards so the reader may -or not- support the card you're using.

Thanks, Ron. Windows 10 Home, fully updated. It used to work. Just recently stopped. So far, I've tried replacing the drivers with file R245429--no luck. I also tried deleting the SD/mini-MMC-RS driver and restarting to let Windows load the driver again--no luck.

Keep in mind that Dell doesn't support anything beyond Win 7 on this model. So there's no Win 10 driver  for that card reader for the Studio XPS 8100.

There are al least 2 possibilities: Either the card reader failed and/or a recent Win 10 update changed something that affects the card reader.

Have you tried a different MMC, even if this card works ok in another reader,  just to rule out the MMC card?

Did you uninstall the card reader in Device Manager and reinstall the driver? Or did you just reinstall the driver "on top" of the existing driver?  You might want to uninstall it and reinstall, if that's not what you did. Manually set a system restore point before uninstalling the card reader in Device Manager!

And when you install the driver, do it in Win 7 compatibility mode, which might help.

And then there's the reader itself...
