tell me what OS you are running? it sounds like your not letting windows manage your swap file or your hard drive is low on space.

ok go here and tell me what you see...

right click on the my computer icon and go to properties.
then click advanced and under performance click settings.
then click on the advanced tab and tell me what you see.
also tell me how much free space you have on your hard drive.

I too am having a similar problem:

256 RAM
22Gb free disk
Windows managing virtual memory
Windows me installed.

I have been through the troubleshooting but with no joy.

I am meant to have a fast system but ...

Any suggestions other than upgrade

What OS are you telling him to look at? The My Computer is under the Start menu. Anyway... on XP you go to control panel under the start menu and click on performance and maintenance. Click on see basic information...then go to advanced. You can view the setting for your virtual memory here. It states how much you are using and tells you how much you should have. Set to the specs it says.
To view your Hard Disk space...go to My Computer under the start menu and right click on c:local disk.

benfos,

Do you have the Intel Application Accelerator loaded on your system. If so, uninstall it and see if the problem goes away. If it does, try downloaded a newer version of the Application Accelerator from the Intel web site.

Your solutin won't be as easy as benfos. Personaly i think Windows ME Stinks! But you said solutions other than upgrade! So....Make sure you don't have any programs messing with your RAM or your virtual memory. Tell me what you are running when the error appears!
