Monitor in power save mode

Optiplex GX240- Just moved daughter back from College. She left her Monitor behind so brought a Dell M782 from work, plugged it in and nothing. Green power light blinks on the monitor and if I press any button, monitor displays "Monitor in Power Save Mode, Activate using PC". The PC Power Button (Sleep) light is on (Amber) and the green power light comes on for 1-2 seconds when booting then goes off. Video card is not built into the machine. I think I replaced once before. Do I need a new Video CArd ??? Hate to buy one if that's not the problem. Had issues when under Warranty with it shutting down and not wanting to boot. No help from Dell. Had not had any issues for past 2 months.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mierman

mierman,

* Power the monitor off
* Disconnect it from the PC
* Power the monitor on. If you see a floating colored window, the monitor is good. What do you see?

The floating colored window does come on. The Monitor was in use and replaced with a flat screen 2 days before i brought it home.

Ok. Plug the monitor back into the PC (what port? what color?). Power the monitor on, then power the PC on.
What color are the four ABCD leds on the rear of the PC?

Do you mean the LEDS aren't lit up when the PC powers up or you don't see the LEDS? Go here . Look to the left of the green and purple mouse/keyboard jacks. Do yo see those four dots? Those are the LEDS. When your PC powers on, they should light up.

What was the final outcome of this issue after the use said the LED's were not lit, as I am experiencing the same issue?  Thanks
