Monitor Problems in Standby Mode and After Switch Off

Hi there
 
I am encountering some problems with my 17" flat panel monitor that came with my Dimension 3100.  When my computer goes to standby mode, rather than being presented with a black screen the monitor randomly flashes alternating colours including pink, red, green, blue etc.  The same happens when I switch the computer off but leave the monitor on.  However, in this case it is impossible to switch the monitor off using its power button.  The only way to switch it off is by removing the power cable or by switching off the monitor before I switch off the computer.
 
Does anybody know what the problem is or how to solve it?  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi James, sorry I can't help you but I am having exactly the same problem - started yesterday for no apparent reason, at least no-one here will admit to having done anything that might have changed any settings.
 
Any help fixing this would be greatly appreciated. I think my warranty runs out in a couple of weeks...

James, I don't how you are off with your warranty but dell are collecting my monitor for repair. There was only 5 days left on the warranty. Good luck.
