Need graphics card for Dell Optiplex 755 SFF

Hi,

I need to upgrade the video card in a Dell Optiplex 755 SFF desktop. It has a low-profile PCI-E slot, and the power supply is only 275W.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Would the ATI Radeon HD 4650 512MB Low Profile work you think?

Basically, here's the requirements:

  • PCI Express
  • small form factor / low profile
  • 512 MB or more RAM is preferred, although 256 would work if necessary
  • 2 output ports (VGA, DVI, HDMI, does not matter which)
  • needs to work with the 275W power supply

We have 8 of these systems that need a dual monitor graphics card, and I'm wondering what the best option is.

The power supply is the stock one that came with the unit.

I got the card at New Egg. Here's the link...

www.newegg.com/.../Product.aspx

It's nice they give you an end view showing that the card components do not extend beyond the bracket edges. That's how I identified the best card I could find that would fit.

Thanks guys!

GT 430 is the winner!

I prefer this against the radeon cards because it supports 3d movies.

That card requires a 400 watt power supply minimum.

Yes, according to specification. This card works fine with 305W. Read this: en.community.dell.com/.../20041399.aspx

Might not physically fit if the heatsink is too tall. The SFF has a very very narrow slot.

The ONLY one that this card DOES NOT FIT into is the USFF due to it having no slots.  :emotion-3:

The Asus 5450 definitely fits and works int the SFF Mfr Part #: 5450SLDI1GD3LP

I agree, HD 5450 is great for HTPC but not for gaming...HD 5570 definitely fits too, Nvidia GT 430 as one of users confirmed, HD 6570 . About HD 6670 please read Feedback on a page about this card. Someone confirmed that fits into Optiplex 760 which is the same as 755 and have even weaker (235W) power supply:

"I put this card in a Dell Optiplex 760 SFF. This is the best low profile video card that can fit in this unit. I'm running it with a 235W PSU and so far have had absolutely no problems..."

  • Please notice that HD 6670 is not wider that low profile bracket which make me to believe it should fit :emotion-5:, right.
  • Here is a video and you can also see and hear that isn't wider-taller (whatever) than low profile bracket.

Farewell!

I have this Dell Optiplex 755 DT

i want to put a gt 440 card in it, but over the pcie slot there is this text: max 25W

lots of people said that their 755 sff built works with 9800gt, 9600gt, hd 5670, etc..

and these have higher power need than the gt 440

and its not a sff its a desktop version

what do you think? will it work?

thanks

Well, as you said lot of people said that their 755 works fine with some low profile cards, Nvidia or AMD. Do not worry about power consumption of GT 440, no need extra power. According to some tests and reviews, about 56W. The 440 is just barely better than GT 430 and compare price also...Here are some benchmark results. You may have problem fit it into your 755 DT and maybe u have to do something like this guy with his Optiplex 980 SFF.

I understand that you are big fun of Nvidia graphic cards but just you may consider some other option like AMD. I already wrote about HD 6670 which is the best low profile card for Optiplex 755 SFF and DT i think. It is also low power card, price is almost the same as GT 440 but can not compare these two cards according to benchmark results and some reviews. One more important thing is that you will not worry can it fit into your tower...because it can.

I think you won't regret if you go with HD 6670.

Farewell! :emotion-11:

The low profile sapphire 6670 GDDR5 card looks good.  I agree it should fit fine EXCEPT the vga connector wire is too short to jump over the top of the card to the other side.  Not a deal breaker but a pain.    The other annoying thing is I do not SEE this LOW PROFILE GDDR5  card for sale anywhere.

Update:  Found it at AMD   http://shop.amd.com/us/All/Detail/GraphicCard/100326LP

Sapphire's Part Number is 100326LP

The sapphire 6670's  that would have 'ISSUES" with most all 755's

look like the MODELS below.

They have just released the Radeon 7750 reporting a TDP of 55W:

www.hisdigital.com/.../product2-682.shtml

Would it be possible to sell a low-profile card.

PS: Sorry for my English.

All I can say is the GT430 card I installed works fine. I couldn't find a spec for the wattage it required so I just took a chance.

Read this benchmark if you would like to buy GT 430 which is bad card for gaming...on high resolution, it means over 1024x768.

Thanks for all the information everyone.

I have an Optiplex 755 Minitower (MT) 305W Power Supply, Dual Core 2GHZ with 2 Gig RAM. This is an ex school computer that I am turning into a media station for my parents. I had to get a graphics card with HDMI output to work inside the limitations as discussed on this thread with the compact nature of the tower and limitations from the power supply.

I ended up getting a Geforce GT 610 1024MB DDR3 which comes with a few adjustable backing plates to fit low profile designs which is really cool. So I was a little worried whether the power supply could handle everything required of it but all tests are working perfectly and that's including 2 internal hard drives, installation and use of  a wireless card and the said graphics card utilising a HDMI connection. Running smoooooothly.

The said graphics card also has a low power draw then most so could be helpful for some of you out there.

What I can't work out however is if you can take BOTH sides of the casing off. Yes one side comes off with the pull lever which is easy. But from what I have checked the other side can't be removed without causing breakage (forcing it). This kinda sucks as some of the mounts require access from both sides to secure screws, which seems to be the case with the factory installed DVD drive inside. So hopefully someone can give me some info on that.

Either way however, not being able to easily remove both sides of a casing is a pain if your working on a computer. If that's the way it is supposed to be then DELL should hang their heads in shame on that one.
