Optiplex 990 Desktop Riser Card?

Does anyone know if the Dell Optiplex 990 desktop form-factor has a riser card available? I'm looking for a x16 PCI-Express full-height slot. If so, what is the part number?

One was available for the Optiplex 960 but it doesn't look like it will fit the 990 due to the fact that the slot next to the x16 slot is PCI Express and not PCI.

Just wanted to confirm... after getting my hands on an Optiplex 990 Desktop, there is no way that a riser card can be installed. The case isn't set up with the removable parts to accept it.

Between that and the fact that it's not listed as an available part, I'd call it a definitive "no".

You would NOT be able to use a Full Length 75W GPU even if the riser fit because the Power supply is too small.

Why do you want an X16 riser?

SpeedStep, thanks for your reply. You'd be surprised at what these little power supplies can push out. I have a Optiplex 960 desktop form-factor running 16 GB RAM, Core 2 Quad Proc, ATI HD 5670 video card, and an add-on sound card. Many said it would not be possible, but I've been running it for about a year and it's been completely stable, even while running stress tests (Prime95, etc.) and while gaming. I run Windows 7 with VMware Workstation and 5-7 VMs running at any given time. So this desktop runs hot 24x7. For more info see: www.tomshardware.com/.../304054-33-fastest-power-graphics-card-holiday-2010-update

Regardless, I wasn't asking about whether or not a high power video card can be used. I'm in need of the ability to insert full-height riser cards and was wondering if the Optiplex 990 Desktop form-factor has a riser card option available. I don't see one listed on Dell's parts site, and the one I linked (and the one you pictured) doesn't look like it will fit. The Optiplex 960 has a PCI slot next to its PCIe x16 slot, whereas the Optiplex 990 has a PCIe x1 slot next to its PCIe x16 slot.

Thanks,

Frank

There is a PCI but not PCI-E riser AFAIKT for the 960 and 980.   There are zero listings I can find that say 990.

Manufacturer Part# : J048K | Dell Part# : 430-3344

Dell Dual Full Height PCI Riser for OptiPlex 960/980/ XE DT/ XE SFF ...

This one does not appear to fit.

Manufacturer Part# : YR943 | Dell Part# : 430-2597

You might be right. I can find a reference to a riser for the Optiplex 990 here: www.dell.com/.../product-compare

But that's about it...
