Power Supply

I'm a little confused. I have a old Dimension 8200 and everyone says that Dells power supply's are propiatory. But if you look at the pin outs in the on line manuals here, they appear to be standard ATX and then when I was looking at adapters for the Dell power supplies here http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/std/sku=dellconverter they say at the bottom of the page :
Known exceptions:

Pentium 4 Dell Models that do not require a power supply adapter:
Dell Dimension 4300, 4400, 4700, 8200, 8300, OptiPlex GX 400

Does ALL this mean I can use a Standard ATX Power Supply ?

Dell Dimension systems, 2200,2300,4300,4400,4500, 8200, and above, the power supplies [20-pin] are to ATX standard, that have been modified, by having the power on-off switch removed.

The PSU's in the Dimension systems, prior to these systems are not standard and are proprietary.

There are some models, where a power supply with the on/off switch can be used without having to modify the back panel

The Dimension 4700, 8400 systems and above, use the newer standard ATX [24-pin motherboard power connector] power supplies.

"Everyone says..." Don't you remember what your mother said? "If everyone jumped into the lake..." :)

Yes, the 8200 is standard ATX.

Thanks, I had an old 430W Antec and just now hooked it up. It powered on fine except some Dell screen popped up saying to run some utility because the configuration had changed. I had all my pci cards pulled out. I'll put them back in and modify the back of the 8200 a small bit to except a on/off switch. Thanks a lot, you'se guys saved me some dough and cleared up my confusion to boot.
