scan disk and defragmentor

Try an Alt-Ctrl-Del (over and over) and 'End Task' on everything EXCEPT Explorer and, if it's listed, Systray. After that then turn off Wallpaper or Screen Savers then try it again. Do ScanDisk first, then Defrag. If it still doesn't complete then try them both in Safe Mode.

Also, it's best to cleanup your system before Defragging, i.e., Deleting Temp files, Temp Internet Files, the Recycle bin and so forth.

GET "End it all" (for free). Great program to shutdown everything before installing software and scandisking! I fergot where I went to get it though, one of these wizards steered me there.
