server error

I recently went DSL and since then have been unable to scan and send in an email.  I keep getting a host "SMTP" could not be found, error message.  I have been on hold and disconnected with Dell for over 5 hours yesterday.  Tried chatting online with tech support to no avail ( I get a data error) and I have emailed Dell directly.  The article they sent me seemed thorough, however it did not work.  I desperately need help!
