Shut-down/power-off disable
Using a Dell Dimension 3000 and Windows XP Professional. This system is a member of a domain. The network resides on a Dell PowerEdge server with Windows 2003 Server.
I need this computer to stay on at all times. I checked power options in the control panel and used the management console to disable shutdown. Evidently someone (maybe an office cleaners) is holding in the power button until the system shuts down. Is there a way to disable the power button without opening the case and removing it? I am thinking there might be a bios setting for this.
In the control panel, under power options, there is an option to DO NOTHING when the power button is pressed. I logged in as an administrator and set this option, but it does not work.

No, there is no way to disable the power button completely in the software. You can set it in Windows to "do nothing" when pressed, but it will still turn the computer off if you hold it.
The solution would be to remove the side cover and unplug the front IO panel connector from the motherboard once the computer has booted up. Either that or find the culprit who is shutting the computer down and instruct them not to do it any more.
