Soundmax Driver for Dell Dimension 4700

Hi, I'm having a hell of a time trying to get the audio on my system to work.  Everything checks out, but there is just no sound.  I believe I may have to redownload the driver, as the current one says it is working properly, but it is not, and I cannot find the driver anywhere.  Or maybe the BIOS are corrupt.  Could someone help me please?  I have XP Pro operating system.  Thank you very much.

Hi Aloisd,

Here is the driver, which you can always find by going to the Dell support site and looking for drivers.

You might also want to run the Dell diagnostics to verify that your audio adapter hardware is operating properly.

Hi Osprey, thank you for your response.  I did as you advised, and downloaded the Dell driver, but when my computer started back up, I received the error message:  "DSndUP error:  No ADI codec driver is installed".  I also tested the sound, and it still didn't work.  Then I tried to run Dell Diagnostics, as I had several times yesterday, but kept getting the error message, "!  A problem has been detected.  Please try again".  What can you recommend at this point?  My system had been running fine before I moved several months ago.  I also tried System Restore, but it would only let me go as far back as a week ago, and even then it would report, "System Restore did not complete properly, no settings on your computer have been changed."

Take a look a this thread. The problem looks just like yours. The solution was to update the NVIDIA driver. Do you have an NVIDIA video card with HDMI?
