Three monitors on XPS 9100

I have a new XPS 9100, and was hoping to use three VGA monitors on it.  Unfortunately, several Dell technicians have given me different answers, and I am uncertain which pathway to take.  The ATI Radeon card in the PCI-e slot supports two monitors.  I'm told the third port, an HDMI port, duplicates the content of DVI-I port.

I bought a GeForce 8400 PCI card for the remaining port.  I receive a "PCI-to-PCI bridge" error with code (10), and the video card is not recognized.

I have spent some time on this issue, and am now seeking any suggestion that comes in under $200 or the like, uses the ports available on a XPS 9100, and lets me use three monitors.  I am seeking to use the monitors in a business setting - no need for some game stretched out across all the monitors, just email on one, web on another, word on the third, that kind of thing.

Thanks,

Randy

Hi RBoone2020,

There are a number of ways of accomplishing your goal, but the easiest is to purchase an ATI 5xxx series card. Make sure that that it supports the Eyefinity feature (some of the lower-end models don't). Note that you one of the monitors will have to support a Displayport input OR you need an ATI Certified Displayport to DVI adapter.

They have just released their new 6xxxx series as well. The first two models (6850 and 6870) can support at least 4 monitors if you think that you might need more in the future. You might have a little difficulty sourcing these as they are very very new (released on Oct 25).
