Trouble installing new video card in Dell Dimension 8300

l bought a Radeon HD 3650 videocard (manufactured by VisionTek) with 1 GB DDR2 memory for my Dell Dimension 8300. I went to the Device Manager and uninstalled the two drivers for my original video card, rebooting the computer each time as instructed. Then  I shut down the computer and put the new video card in.  I have it pushed in as far as it will go, but it does not seem to fit as well as the original where the VGA connection exits the back of the CPU. The new video card does not have a power connection, but I can tell it is receiving power because the fan is running.

When I turn the computer back on, the monitor says it is not receiving a signal. I also tried hooking up a second monitor I have with the same result.

When I read the troubleshooting instructions from VisionTek, they mention  disabling any "onboard video" (video built into the motherboard). Do Dell Dimensions have onboard video? I looked in the Device Manager and the bios and didn't see anything that looked like this. If it is there, how do I disable it? If it's not, what else can I do to get the video card working?

Thanks in advance for your help.

thank you for getting back to me.  Before I go absolutely crazy, I just want to make sure that the video card that you were installing on your DEll 8300 was a VGA VISIONTEK| 900280 HD3650 R.

Did absolutely everything possible to install it and I have a 305 Watt PSU so it should be getting enough juice. Did BestBuy tell you what you were doing wrong when they did get it installed, and also how much did they charge you for it in addition to the $40 diagnosis upfront?

thank you for your help, it is very much appreciated!

I had a problem with a 2350 and XP where XP would default to the onboard video instead of the discrete card. I had to connect the monitor to the onboard video and then set the discrete card as primary.

Windows 7 defaults to the video that's actually connected.

The card that I had was this one:

I think Best Buy charged me $50 or $60 to put it in as a flat rate. I don't believe there was a diagnosis charge. I can't recall what they said I was doing wrong....sorry!
